Since 1987, Romain Kleer has been a pioneering volunteer in Useldange.
His involvement in tourism began in 1990, when he joined the Tourist Information and Tourism Association. Thirty-four years later, in 2024, this association was integrated into the non-profit organization Kultur a Buergfrënn Useldeng, where he continues to ensure the implementation of the objectives of both the association and the non-profit organization.
With the renovation of Useldange Castle in 2010, the non-profit organization “Kultur- a Buergfrënn Useldeng” was founded. Romain is one of the founding members and has been heavily involved in this association from its inception. In 2018, he was elected its president. Under his leadership, several tourism and cultural projects have emerged. In 2017, the “Kultur- a Burgfrënn Useldeng” association became the driving force behind the flagship Atert-Wark Tourist Information Point project. Romain has strongly supported this project, particularly since 2018, as president of the association, and contributed to its success. The tourist office is the only professional tourist information point in the entire Guttland region and still exists today under the name TouristInfo Wëlle Westen. It has been administered by the Intermunicipal Association “De Reidener Kanton” since 2019.
Alongside the flagship Atert-Wark Tourist Information Point project, the “Kultur- a Burgfrënn Useldeng” association launched the ManuKultura creative house. This cultural center offers workshops on various themes, attended by local and international visitors. This contributes to the increase in the number of overnight stays in our region. ManuKultura organizes pottery workshops, readings, ancestral research courses, art exhibitions, as well as painting and sewing classes. Theater performances, in which Jemp Schuster and Betsy Denzer have previously performed, are also offered. Other highlights include concerts, in which Serge Tonnar has performed. Romain’s involvement in this cultural aspect helps make Useldange more attractive, particularly to domestic tourists.
The promotion and promotion of Useldange Castle are another major objective of “Kultur- a Burgfrënn Useldeng.” Romain has been a guide at Useldange Castle for several years and has already taken numerous Swiss and foreign visitors on a journey to the Middle Ages. An official guide for the Regional Tourist Office of the Centre/West (Guttland), he always donates all of his ORT remuneration to the “Kultur- a Burgfränn Useldeng” association, thus offering his guiding services voluntarily. Under Romain’s leadership, various types of guided tours have been developed at Useldange Castle in recent years. With his help, Useldange Castle now offers tours for children and families, for people with intellectual disabilities, for the visually impaired, and a classic guided tour. Not to mention the night tours, where Romain takes visitors on an exciting journey through the castle, telling them stories and legends about the castle and Useldange. Romain’s contribution and commitment to developing Useldange Castle as a tourist destination have led to strong partnerships with TouristInfo Wëlle Westen and the Centre/West Regional Tourist Office. Of particular note is the Dollarmatti Tour, a popular and original SlowTrip developed in collaboration with ORT Guttland and LEADER Wëlle Westen.
In addition to the attractions at Useldange Castle, to which Romain has devoted a great deal of time and energy, making it even more accessible is also important to him. For example, he committed to developing a 360-degree online tour allowing people with reduced mobility to visit the castle. This tour can be viewed on the Useldange municipality’s website. Romain also contributed to developing the content for the Nächst Statioun app. In 2021, Romain had a digital kiosk installed in front of the Wëlle Westen tourist office in Useldange, on behalf of “Kultur- a Buergfrënn Useldeng” via ORT Guttland. Thanks to him, Useldange has seen its tourist destination significantly enhanced. Useldange’s current hiking trails (the autopedestrian and the local hiking trails Hieselwee and Bunnewee) were created thanks to his commitment. In 2023, the association “Culture and Friends of the City of Useldange” will launch the Wichtelwee, under Romain’s direction. This is a children’s walking tour, where stories from Greth’s tales are told on signs and with audio files in simple language. Romain also contributed to the improvement of the old landfill on the cycle path between Rippweiler and Näerden, thus creating a pleasant cycle path frequented by many national and international tourists.
As president and volunteer of ” Natur an Ëmwelt – Kanton Réiden,” the protection of nature, animals, and the environment is particularly close to his heart. He is therefore well aware of the importance of this aspect for tourism and the tourist offerings associated with Useldange.
Romain also volunteers with the “Useldenger Härenekipp” association. This association organizes the famous medieval festival every year, an event that attracts many tourists from the region to Useldange.
Romain’s commitment to the cultural and tourism sector is a testament to the time and passion he devotes to developing Useldange as a tourist destination. From organizing the Useldange Medieval Festival to organizing concerts and plays, to developing hiking trails, guided tours, and guided days, Romain is committed and motivated to do everything possible to develop Useldange as a tourist destination. By overseeing the flagship Atert-Wark Tourist Information Point project and establishing a strong partnership with the ORT Guttland, Romain looks beyond the borders of Useldange and also advocates for regional tourism in the Far West and throughout the Guttland region.
Working with Romain is always pleasant and enriching for everyone. Originally from Useldange, his hometown is close to his heart, which is strongly felt during his collaborations. His knowledge of Useldange Castle and its history, as well as his anecdotes about his hometown, greatly enrich the projects he works on. Despite his commitment, he always remains attentive to his fellow citizens and work partners. He values the input of his partners and the employees of “Kultur- a Burgfränd Useldingen” and is open to new ideas. With his respectful and kind attitude, he always ensures a friendly atmosphere where his colleagues, and therefore his employees, feel at ease. If only a few villages in our country had a citizen as dedicated as Romain, who does not hesitate to invest hours in projects, Luxembourg and its rural tourism would certainly take a step forward!
