Textile Museum Larochette

The “Textil Musée Larochette” is the result of a collaboration between the municipality of Larochette and the NGO Fairtrade Lëtzebuerg, with the support of the Direction générale du tourisme of the Ministère de l’Économie and the Direction de la Coopération au développement et de l’action humanitaire of the Ministère des Affaires Étrangères as part of the “Rethink Your Clothes” campaign, which was commissioned by the Coopération luxembourgeoise.

This museum sheds light on the industrial history of Larochette while raising awareness of the contemporary challenges associated with the production and consumption of textiles. Through this initiative, the museum offers a complete immersion from the past to the future of fashion by addressing the social and environmental consequences of fast fashion as well as the sustainable alternatives offered by fair trade, while enhancing the industrial heritage of Larochette.

The museum is divided into two complementary areas:

  • An insight into local textile history: visitors discover the central role of Larochette in the boom of Luxembourg’s textile industry. Restored machines from the period, traditional production techniques and historical stories illustrate the importance of the sector in the region. The museum is housed in a historic building that once served as an industrial hall.
  • The challenges of today’s fashion: The exhibition highlights the consequences of fast fashion, from the exploitation of workers to the social and environmental impact. At the same time, it presents alternatives thanks to fair trade and Fairtrade certification, which guarantees better working conditions and a more ethical model. The exhibition is located in the Larochette community building.

An interactive and educational space

The Textile Museum in Larochette is more than just an exhibition space. It is a real awareness-raising and action tool that allows visitors to learn about this industrial heritage, which bears witness to textile production until 1985. With the help of multimedia materials and concrete initiatives, it invites visitors to rethink their consumption and commit to more responsible fashion.
