MULLERTHAL CYCLING – Cycling in Little Switzerland
Müllerthal Cycling a.s.b.l.
Mullerthal Cycling a.s.b.l. was founded to raise the profile of cycling in the Little Switzerland region and make it more attractive to road cyclists and mountain bikers. As an ambassador for cycling tourism in eastern Luxembourg, the association plays a central role: in addition to internal club rides and training sessions, Mullerthal Cycling organizes two well-established events in the greater region, the athletically challenging Mill-Man-Trail and the Mill-Man-Road.
The Mill-Man-Trail – From idea to cult event
The first edition of the Mill-Man-Trail took place on April 22, 2012. At that time, almost 250 mountain bikers from Luxembourg and neighboring countries took part. The MMT developed rapidly in its early years: the number of participants grew steadily, making the event one of the largest mountain bike gatherings in the region. Until the pandemic-related break, the Mill-Man-Trail reached a record level with up to 2,000 participants.
The Mill-Man-Trail combines sporting challenges with scenic diversity: spectacular rock formations, steep climbs, technical descents, and narrow single trails characterize the route. Three different laps are offered, with lengths of 40, 70, and 100 kilometers, which lead through the heart of the Mëllerdall Nature and Geopark.
Even though the Mill-Man-Trail is firmly established in the mountain biking calendar of the Greater Region, in 2025 we not only offered the tried-and-tested challenges for mountain bikers, but also organized an exciting premiere for gravel bikers. There were two additional routes of 40 and 80 kilometers through the Müllerthal to choose from.
As another premiere, we are also focusing on increased environmental protection at and along the routes for the Mill-Man-Trail 2025. After intensive preparations, we were able to hold the event under the “Green Event” label for the first time. The checklist for a “Green Event” includes not only measures for waste prevention, but also guidelines in the areas of communication & marketing, decoration & equipment, mobility, food & beverages, water & sanitation, energy, and ecological commitment throughout the entire organization.
At this point, we would like to express our special thanks to the numerous helpers during the preparation phase and on the event weekend. Without their commitment and the support of our sponsors, it would not be possible to successfully organize such events, which offer cyclists from Luxembourg, France, Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands unique and unforgettable experiences on the trails in the Mëllerdall.
The Mill-Man-Road – road cycling meets scenic enjoyment
Since 2024, the Mill-Man-Road has added a road cycling event to the program. The 60/90/120 km routes are designed for ambitious athletes as well as passionate touring cyclists. The routes run on quiet side roads through the characteristic landscape of Little Switzerland in Luxembourg. There is a mix of climbs, panoramic views, and technical sections.
The Mill-Man-Road also focuses on the fun of exercising in nature. Without timekeeping, but with clear route guidance and refreshment stops along the way, it creates a relaxed and sporty community experience on a road bike.
The Roadbook – Orientation for explorers
A comprehensive roadbook was developed in collaboration with the Office Régional du Tourisme (ORT) during the development phase of Müllerthal Cycling. It contains 16 themed circular tours, sorted by difficulty level (L – easy, M – medium, S – difficult), and provides an excellent basis for individual touring and athletic road bike training.
Each route is equipped with GPX data, elevation profiles, and descriptions. The roadbook allows for flexible planning – whether for day visitors, training groups, or organized tours.
Vision & Outlook
With new route ideas, the expansion of digital offerings, and growing international recognition, Müllerthal Cycling is looking forward to a dynamic future – firmly anchored in the natural and cultural landscape of Little Switzerland.
